According to reports, the marriage was conducted for a bride price of ₦10,000, without the knowledge or approval of the couple’s parents or any legal authority.
Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah (Special Operations), Dr. Mujaheedden Aminuddeen Abubakar, said Hisbah officials acted after receiving complaints from residents who raised concerns over the illegal marriage taking place in their neighbourhood.
“Hisbah officers acted after residents raised concerns about the unlawful marriage being conducted in their area,” Dr. Abubakar said. “The act clearly violates Islamic teachings and the laws of the state guiding marriage.”

He added that the Hisbah Board would continue to clamp down on individuals who disregard Islamic and legal procedures in marriage matters.
“We will not hesitate to take action against anyone who undermines proper marital guidelines as prescribed by Islam and recognised by law,” he stated.
Dr. Abubakar further disclosed that the suspects are currently in Hisbah custody and will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
