Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecution, the duo murdered Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi on August 27, 2013, in the Festac area of Lagos. They were also accused of attempting to kidnap Vincent Obianodo, Chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.
Evans and Emeka are currently being held at the Kirikiri Maximum Custodial Centre, where they are serving sentences from previous convictions.

In February 2022, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of an Ikeja High Court convicted Evans and two others on two counts of conspiracy and kidnapping involving Donatus Dunu, Chief Executive Officer of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The prosecution proved that Evans and his gang kidnapped Dunu in Lagos on February 14, 2017, and collected a ransom of £223,000 (about ₦100 million) from his family.
Justice Oshodi subsequently sentenced Evans and his co-defendants to life imprisonment on February 25, 2022.
