US President Donald Trump addressed the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, declaring to cheering lawmakers that “the long and painful nightmare is finally over” following the ceasefire he helped broker between Israel and Hamas.

Trump called the day “the moment that everything began to change” for the better in the Middle East. After hearing politicians chant his name, he suggested the region was experiencing “the historic dawn of a new Middle East.”

He described the ceasefire agreement as “the most challenging breakthrough maybe ever,” indicating his next focus would be ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu introduced Trump, calling him the “greatest friend” Israel has ever had in the White House.
Netanyahu thanked Trump for his “unremitting help” in securing the hostages’ return, a group seized during the October 7, 2023, attacks. Trump returned the tribute, calling Netanyahu great, despite him “not the easiest guy to deal with.”

The ceasefire, which took effect Friday morning, represents the first phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan.
Trump will travel immediately to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to co-chair a peace summit alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and other world leaders.
Members of Trump’s audience wore red caps reading “Trump the Peace President,” and the parliamentary speaker nominated him for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
