Speaking during a meeting on Monday with a delegation from PLAN International, led by its Director of Programme, Quality, and Innovation, Helen Mfonobong Idiong, the Vice President highlighted the administration’s determination to create opportunities for every Nigerian child.
During the session, Shettima invited teenage advocate Joy Ogah to symbolically take over his seat as “one-day Vice President,” representing the voice and aspirations of the girl child.
“We will continue our engagement with PLAN International and explore areas where government can support your solid advice on girl child education,” Shettima said.

He assured the delegation that President Bola Tinubu is a strong ally of initiatives promoting education and empowerment for girls.
“This government is gender-friendly. We believe in inclusivity. We cannot disenfranchise half of our population and expect to grow as a nation,” he added.
Shettima also praised First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as “a symbol of how a properly empowered and supported girl child can blossom into a great leader.”
On her part, PLAN International’s representative, Helen Idiong, noted that the organisation has supported more than 11 million Nigerian children through education, entrepreneurship, and youth development initiatives. She also referenced PLAN’s advocacy efforts that contributed to the removal of VAT on sanitary pads and diapers under the Tax Reforms Act.
The Vice President reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to continued collaboration with PLAN International and other development partners to sustain policies that promote the rights and education of girls nationwide.
