During Thursday’s proceedings, Agabi informed the court that he and his team would no longer appear for the IPOB leader, explaining that Kanu had decided to personally take over the case.

Following his announcement, all other Senior Advocates of Nigeria involved in the matter also withdrew their appearances.
Confirming the move, Kanu told the court he would be defending himself for now, though he might reconsider later.
Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, asked Kanu if he wanted the court to appoint a lawyer for him, but the defendant declined the offer.

Kanu then addressed the court orally, arguing that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.
It would be recalled that Justice Omotosho, on October 16, granted Kanu six consecutive days starting from October 23 to present and conclude his defence, following an order for accelerated hearing.
The IPOB leader had previously listed several high-profile individuals, including former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Works Minister Dave Umahi, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), and ex-Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), among others, as witnesses in his defence.
