A lecturer at the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), Mrs. Kemi Emmanuel, has died after being struck by a hit-and-run truck along the Felele axis of Lokoja, Kogi State, on Wednesday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Mrs. Emmanuel, who taught in the Department of Theatre Arts, was reportedly on her way home after work when the tragic incident occurred near the university campus.

According to reports, the lecturer fell off a commercial motorcycle (okada) after being hit by the speeding truck. The motorcycle rider allegedly fled the scene, claiming to be pursuing the truck.
Confirming the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Lokoja, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, described the event as “very sad and unfortunate.”
“When the accident happened, our rescue team responded swiftly and rushed the victim to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The body has since been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary,” Etuku said.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of accidents involving university staff and students on the major highways that pass through the institution, calling for urgent safety measures.

Etuku further cautioned motorcycle riders against reckless driving and confrontations with other vehicles on the highway to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Mrs. Emmanuel was described by colleagues and students as a respected academic and a kind-hearted mentor dedicated to her work in the creative arts.
