The Katsina State Fire Service disclosed that it received a distress call shortly after the fire started, prompting emergency responders to swiftly mobilise to the scene to contain the blaze.
According to the agency, the affected shops were mainly used for the sale of groceries, drinks, curtains and fabrics.
Firefighters were, however, able to prevent the inferno from spreading to other sections of the busy market, successfully saving seven neighbouring shops from destruction.

The service further revealed that shops numbered 112 to 114, including valuables contained in them and a Peugeot 406 car, were salvaged during the operation.
Despite the intervention, shops numbered 128 to 130 were completely destroyed by the fire.
No casualty was recorded in the incident.
