EKO HOT BLOG reports that Edun, a strong advocate of youth and grassroots sports development, was elected unopposed, securing all twelve delegate votes during the NBF election held on Saturday at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Following his victory, Edun expressed appreciation to the delegates and promised to reposition boxing through reforms aimed at rebuilding its structure and expanding access for young athletes.
“The goal is to rebuild Nigerian boxing from the grassroots to the global stage,” Edun said. “We are committed to ensuring that every young boxer in the country has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
He assured stakeholders that his administration would prioritise talent discovery, welfare of athletes, and international exposure to restore Nigeria’s dominance in the sport.
The election for vice president was more competitive, with Hon. Omonlei Imadu from the Southwest defeating his North Central opponent, Mighty Mike, by eight votes to four.
Imadu, known for his grassroots sports initiatives, hailed Edun’s emergence as a “new dawn” for Nigerian boxing. “The Honourable Minister is very passionate about boxing, and we will work closely with him to achieve his vision for the sport,” he said.

He also commended the National Sports Commission, chaired by Shehu Dikko with Hon. Bukola Olopade as Director General, for organising what he described as a credible and transparent election, adding that the process has restored confidence among sports stakeholders.
