President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held his first closed-door meeting with the newly appointed Service Chiefs, urging them to intensify efforts in tackling insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges across Nigeria.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, began at about 4:00 p.m. and lasted 40 minutes. Present were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abbas.
According to presidency sources, Tinubu directed the security chiefs to take decisive action against insurgents and strengthen coordination among the Armed Forces to restore lasting peace. The President was said to have emphasized discipline, intelligence sharing, and accountability as key pillars of his administration’s security reforms.
Tinubu had, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the new appointments were made to “strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture and ensure effective leadership across all military branches.” He also commended the outgoing service chiefs, including former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for their patriotic service and dedication.
Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abbas is expected to officially assume office today (Tuesday) as the new Chief of Naval Staff, succeeding Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, who was appointed in June 2023.
A statement signed by Lt. Cdr. T. F. George confirmed that the handing-over ceremony will hold in Abuja. Before his appointment, Abbas served as the Chief of Training and Operations at Naval Headquarters.
