EKO HOT BLOG reports that confirming the incident, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who visited the crash site, described the accident as tragic, noting that emergency response teams had worked tirelessly since dawn to rescue victims and clear the wreckage.
“It’s very unfortunate that we lost one of our police inspectors who came with our advance team to salvage the situation,” Jimoh told journalists.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was caused by a trailer that suffered brake failure, leading to a chain collision.
“At the beginning, we had a trailer that failed to brake. It is important that every driver ensures proper vehicle maintenance to avoid such disasters,” Jimoh explained.
He added that the crash occurred at the border between Ogun and Lagos States and involved five articulated trucks. “Three people have been rescued from the scene, while rescue operations are still ongoing,” he said.
Emergency response agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other security personnel, swiftly mobilised to the site to assist in rescue efforts and restore traffic flow.
“As early as 5 a.m., we have been on it with LASTMA, FRSC, and other agencies assisting us,” the police commissioner added.
Jimoh also warned motorists, particularly truck drivers, to desist from reckless driving and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition before hitting the road.
“We want road users, especially those driving articulated vehicles, to stop this kind of recklessness. If they are not reckless in their driving habit, we won’t have this kind of accident,” he cautioned.
