Muslim clerics under the League of Chief Imams have urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Lagos, to avoid protests or actions that could disrupt peace in the country over the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the appeal was made during the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir and Iftar programme held at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Tuesday night.

The clerics’ warning followed a protest reportedly staged in parts of Lagos by members of the South-West chapter of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, who demonstrated over the reported killing of Ali Khamenei during recent strikes linked to the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Speaking on behalf of the League of Chief Imams, the National Missioner and Chief Imam of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abdulrahman Ahmad, called for calm and restraint, stressing that global conflicts should not be allowed to spark unrest in Nigeria.
He said the ongoing Ramadan fasting period and the Christian Lent season should be used for prayers for peace and stability rather than protests or demonstrations related to the Middle East crisis.

According to him, Nigeria is already feeling the ripple effects of global tensions, warning that further unrest could worsen the situation.
Ahmad cautioned that the current crisis could have economic consequences, including possible increases in fuel prices, urging citizens to remain patient and prayerful.
While expressing sadness over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the conflict, he advised Nigerians not to allow themselves to be drawn into disputes that do not directly involve the country.
He also warned against spreading propaganda or participating in protests without fully understanding the issues involved.
The cleric further referenced the aftermath of the EndSARS protests, noting that Lagos and other parts of Nigeria were still dealing with the damage and disruptions that followed the demonstrations.
According to him, citizens must avoid actions that could lead to further instability.
The League of Chief Imams also urged religious leaders across the country to use their platforms to preach peace, unity and responsible conduct during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Ramadan Tafsir and Iftar programme attracted Islamic scholars, Muslim faithful, government officials, civil servants and journalists.
