- Lagos Conference57 leadership formally introduced to ALGON National Secretariat

The Conference57 Chairmen in Lagos State has announced the formal introduction of its leadership to the National Secretariat of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON). The brief but significant ceremony took place on Friday, 31st October 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during the engagement, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, and the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat, were officially presented as the Lagos State ALGON Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
The introduction was performed by former ALGON National President and immediate past Lagos State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi, who described the development as a testament to Lagos State’s demonstrated leadership and commitment to deepening grassroots governance.
Senior representatives of the ALGON National Secretariat were also in attendance, including the Chief of Staff to the National President, Hon. Shehu SarkinKebbi Jega, and the Acting Director General, Barr. (Mrs.) Evan Enekwe.

Speaking during the meeting, the leadership of Conference57 said the introduction signifies a strengthened relationship between Lagos councils and the national body.
“This engagement reaffirms Lagos State’s strategic role in national local governance, and further strengthens the bond between Conference57 and the ALGON National Secretariat,” they stated, noting that Lagos continues to serve as a model for effective coordination, policy alignment, and inclusive development across the country.
They added that the development will bolster grassroots administration in the state by enhancing collaboration, fostering strategic representation, and amplifying the voice of the 57 LGs and LCDAs at the national level.
In closing, Conference57 Chairmen congratulated Engr. Olowa and Prince Hamzat on their new roles, expressing confidence in their capacity to provide visionary leadership for the advancement of local governance.
