“Sadly, among the deceased are minors,” Durazo stated, adding that the injured were receiving treatment at hospitals in Hermosillo, the city where the tragedy occurred.

The blast took place inside a Waldo’s discount store located in the city’s downtown area. Durazo said he had ordered a thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the cause of the explosion and identify those responsible.
Local security officials dismissed speculation of a terrorist or violent attack, noting that early findings suggest the incident was not criminally motivated.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to the families of those who lost their lives,” she wrote.

The explosion caused significant damage to nearby buildings and vehicles, prompting emergency responders and firefighters to rush to the scene to rescue survivors and control the blaze.
Authorities have since cordoned off the area as investigators continue to search for the exact cause of the explosion, which is suspected to have been triggered by a gas leak.
The tragedy has plunged Hermosillo into mourning, with residents and local officials calling for improved safety measures in public facilities.
