EKO HOT BLOG reports that the crisis deepened after the Wike-backed group announced the appointment of Muhammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of Umar Damagum and other key officials by the faction. The move was seen as retaliation for an earlier decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) under Damagum, which had suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and other Wike loyalists.
Speaking to journalists at the PDP’s FCT office before proceeding to Wadata Plaza, Abdulrahman described his emergence as “a divine call” to rescue and reunite the opposition party. He lamented the party’s decline from being the ruling party for 16 consecutive years to a weakened opposition struggling with internal divisions and defections.
“We are all aware of the pitiable state of our glorious party due to the actions and inactions of our leaders. My job is to heal the party of its wounds, end factionalisation, reposition it, and make it law-abiding,” Abdulrahman said.
He pledged to restore unity, discipline, and stability within the PDP, insisting that his leadership would focus on reconciliation and rebuilding confidence among party members.
Shortly after the press briefing, Abdulrahman and his supporters stormed the PDP national secretariat, chanting solidarity songs as they moved in.

However, supporters of the suspended Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, also gathered at the premises, resulting in a tense standoff. Security operatives quickly intervened, with several armed policemen and at least ten patrol vans deployed around the area to prevent clashes between the rival factions.
