The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced that motorists should expect a temporary closure of the Chisco–Victoria Island corridor due to the ongoing recovery of an overturned gas tanker involved in an accident earlier on Monday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA said its operatives and emergency responders were currently on-site and might shut the main carriageway at any moment to ensure safety during the recovery process.

“In view of the ongoing operation, the entire main carriageway will be temporarily closed to traffic at any moment to allow for the safe, swift, and professional recovery of the gas tanker and to prevent any secondary incidents during the process,” Taofiq said.
The agency appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officers on the ground, noting that diversion measures had been put in place to ease congestion in the area.

“Motorists are therefore strongly advised to exercise patience and cooperate with LASTMA officials and other emergency responders on the ground, as concerted efforts are being made to complete the evacuation operation within the shortest possible time and restore normal traffic flow,” the statement added.
LASTMA emphasised that the safety of motorists remains a top priority for the Lagos State Government and assured that further updates would be communicated once the tanker evacuation is complete.
The reminder comes as authorities continue to stress the dangers of unsafe behaviour around accident scenes.
