EKO HOT BLOG reports that although the Nigerian Presidency did not release full details of the meeting, sources confirmed that discussions centred on ongoing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) efforts to stabilise the sub-region amid rising security and political challenges.
Maada Bio, who succeeded Tinubu as ECOWAS Chairman in June 2025, confirmed the engagement through a post on his verified 𝕏 handle, describing the talks as highly productive.
“I had a productive meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he wrote. “As Chairperson of ECOWAS, we engaged in discussions concerning regional security and the important role of ECOWAS in fostering peace and supporting economic development within our regional community.”
The meeting comes at a time when ECOWAS is working to strengthen its conflict prevention mechanisms following military takeovers in parts of West Africa and renewed calls for regional cooperation on counterterrorism.

President Bio’s visit also coincided with his attendance at Baze University’s 12th Convocation Ceremony, where he is expected to deliver the keynote address. According to him, his stay in Abuja will also include engagements with African business leaders aimed at driving investment and sustainable economic growth across the sub-region.
