The Office of the Executive Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, has announced the commencement of the First Round of the Polio Outbreak Response (OBR), scheduled to hold from Saturday, 8th November to Tuesday, 11th November, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the exercise is part of the Statewide Polio Campaign coordinated by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and international health partners.
The campaign aims to stop the spread of the circulating variant poliovirus type 2 (cVPV2) and strengthen immunity among children under five years of age.
According to the statement from the council, vaccination teams will move from house to house and visit schools, churches, mosques, and markets across all communities in Ibeju-Lekki to administer the free Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to children aged 0 to 59 months.
The Executive Chairman urged parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated, emphasizing that the vaccine is both safe and essential for protecting children from paralysis caused by the poliovirus.

“The vaccine is safe, free, and protects children from paralysis caused by poliovirus,” the statement read. “Parents and guardians are kindly encouraged to allow their children to receive the vaccine.”
The council further appealed for community support to ensure the success of the campaign.
“Let us all cooperate with the health teams to ensure that no eligible child is left out,” the statement added. “Together, we can keep Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State polio-free.”
The polio outbreak response underscores the local government’s commitment to public health and aligns with the state’s broader goal of eradicating polio across all local councils.
