EKO HOT BLOG reports that the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) had advised its citizens to avoid Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, and Zamfara due to terrorism, kidnappings, and violent attacks. It also cautioned against all but essential travel to Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, and parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Responding on Sunday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the Tinubu administration was aware of security challenges in certain regions and was taking decisive steps to resolve them. According to him, the President has restructured the nation’s security framework, improved intelligence operations, and boosted investments in modern military and surveillance equipment.
“Our security challenges will soon be a thing of the past. We are steadily improving safety in our cities and communities, and all foreign nationals are assured of their protection,” Idris stated.
Meanwhile, the Gombe State Government rejected the UK’s inclusion of the state among unsafe regions, describing it as “unfounded and unfair.” The Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, said Gombe remained one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, with no major incidents of insurgency or communal crisis in recent years.

Similarly, the Kano State Government downplayed the advisory, describing it as a routine action not reflective of current realities. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, said the government had intensified security cooperation with military forces, particularly around border areas prone to infiltration.
