The event was organised by the League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland.
The conference was attended by leading Islamic scholars and community leaders including Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere, Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullah Al Ilory, Sheikh Mustapha Olawale Hossein Doak, Sheikh AbdulRasaq AbdulAzeez Ishola, and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola. Professors Noah Lawal Jinadu, Lukman Awawiye, Kamil Oloso, and other notable personalities were also present.
Gbajabiamila, who was represented by Hon Lukman Lawal, Special Adviser on Finance to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Tajudeen Abas, warned that global political interests are increasingly attempting to exploit Nigeria’s religious diversity.

He noted that recent international narratives, including the designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by United States President Donald Trump over alleged Christian persecution, were part of broader efforts to sow division.
“This conference is coming at the right time. Religious institutions remain a major pillar of our leadership structure. They play a central role in governance and peaceful co existence,” he said.
He commended Rabita for its sustained efforts in the South West to promote good governance and unity, stressing the importance of guarding against external influences seeking to destabilise the nation.
“At a time like this, we can see international politics trying to use religion to divide us. So, this is a commendable initiative by Rabita to reinforce the message of peace, love and harmony.
“We have lived peacefully for many years. Christianity and Islam have co existed for decades. Yes, we face security challenges, but we can overcome them. Do not allow religion to be used to further divide us,” he said.
Gbajabiamila urged religious leaders to remain vigilant, warning against becoming instruments of division.
“It is critical to keep the conversation about religious harmony alive. We must not allow ourselves to be used to cause crisis. Instead, we should pray for our leaders to succeed in taking Nigeria to the promised land,” he added.
