EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigeria made a perfect start when Frank Onyeka scored in the third minute, finishing off a swift attacking move. DR Congo gradually settled into the match and drew level in the 32nd minute through Meschack Elia, who converted from close range after pressure forced Nigeria into an error while trying to play from the back.
Both teams struggled to take control as the game turned cagey. Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali produced several vital saves, including a late stop to deny Chancel Mbemba during extra time. Substitute Tolu Arokodare also missed a clear chance, heading over from close range when he looked poised to score.
With no winner after extra time, the match proceeded to penalties under rising tension. Nigeria fell behind early as Calvin Bassey missed his attempt and Moses Simon saw his effort saved. Nwabali brought the Super Eagles back into the contest with two saves, setting up a dramatic sudden-death scenario.

Semi Ajayi’s effort was then saved by Timothy Fayulu, leaving DR Congo captain Chancel Mbemba with the decisive kick. He powered his shot high into the net, sealing the victory and triggering jubilant celebrations from the Congolese players and supporters.
