President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning education as the central driver of national growth, prosperity and development, declaring that Nigeria has developed a new blueprint to revitalise the university system and address longstanding challenges in the sector.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the President made this known at the 36th convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology Akure where 240 of the 2,747 graduating students earned First Class honours.

Tinubu, represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof Abdullahi Ribadu, said the new policy direction aims to make Nigerian higher education more robust, responsive and globally competitive.
He called for stronger collaboration between tertiary institutions and industries, stating that universities must look beyond government funding by building strategic partnerships that will make research outputs more impactful and economically relevant.
Tinubu commended FUTA for its advancements in indigenous technology, research and human capital development, noting that the institution continues to play a critical role in advancing Nigeria’s digital and industrial transformation agenda.
He encouraged graduates to explore opportunities within the agricultural value chain, describing it as a major pathway for job creation and wealth building.

Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Prof Adenike Oladiji, highlighted the institution’s achievements and the steady progress recorded in research and programme expansion.
She announced that FUTA had received NUC approval to commence new programmes including Nursing Sciences, Financial Technology, Procurement Management and Environmental Management.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Razaq Obe, described FUTA as an institution that continues to distinguish itself through innovation and academic excellence.
Meanwhile, at the University of Medical Sciences, 72 newly inducted medical and dental doctors were advised to uphold ethics and avoid pitfalls as they navigate their careers. Guest lecturer, Prof Frank Imarhiagbe of the University of Benin, stressed the importance of discipline, guidance and hard work in medical practice.
Vice Chancellor of UNIMED, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, urged the new doctors to place humanity at the centre of their professional conduct. Chief Medical Director of UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Dr Michael Gbala, assured the inductees of immediate employment opportunities for those willing to remain in the system.
