Rep. Obi Aguocha has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to apply leniency in sentencing Nnamdi Kanu after he was convicted on seven terrorism-related charges.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the lawmaker, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, made the appeal directly to Justice James Omotosho during his allocutus.

Aguocha pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as deliberations moved toward determining Kanu’s punishment.
The judge adjourned proceedings until 4 pm to deliver the sentencing decision.

The Federal Government’s lead counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, insisted that the maximum penalty, the death sentenc,e was appropriate, arguing that over 75 security personnel lost their lives due to actions linked to Kanu and his followers.
He said many civilians were also killed and public property destroyed, stressing that justice must be served for all victims.
