Sources said the mother of the man had raised the alarm about her son, who had reportedly been unstable for years and causing unrest in the community.
One source explained that the situation escalated when the officers attempted to restrain the suspect. “The man suddenly became violent and, during the struggle, overpowered one of the officers and stabbed him several times,” the source said.
“The attack was shocking because the officer was armed and had a colleague with him, yet they could not prevent the brutal assault,” the source added.
The injured NSCDC officer was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the incident, saying the officers were attempting to take the suspect to a psychiatric facility for proper treatment.
“It is true. The incident happened while our officers were trying to take the man to a facility where he would be treated. The attack occurred in the course of ensuring the safety of both the suspect and the community,” Aidamenbor said.
