- Insecurity: Lagos APC Urges Tinubu to Fast-Track State Police
- Oladejo noted that the Southwest has long championed a modern security system rooted in local communities
- Reaffirm full support for the Renewed Hope security reforms
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has endorsed the call by Southwest governors urging President Bola Tinubu to fast track the creation of State Police across the country in response to rising insecurity.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement, the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, described the appeal as timely, forthright and pragmatic. He argued that only those opposed to peace would reject the growing demand for State Police.

Oladejo noted that the Southwest has long championed a modern security system rooted in local communities and capable of responding quickly and intelligently to emerging threats. He said the recent stance taken by the governors reflects leadership, unity of purpose and a clear grasp of Nigeria’s current security challenges.
According to him, the governors’ position aligns with the long standing progressive philosophy of the APC, which holds that security must be localized to be truly effective. He added that President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated the political will to reform and modernize Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

“The call by the governors only reinforces the President’s commitment to a responsive, people centered and technologically enhanced security framework,” he said.
The Lagos APC maintained that the push for State Police is timely, logical and inevitable, stressing that Nigeria’s security problems require multilayered solutions. Oladejo said that properly designed, professionally regulated and federally coordinated State Police structures would bring security closer to communities, strengthen intelligence gathering and help prevent crime in real time.
He also highlighted the Southwest’s track record in volunteer based and community security initiatives. From the Amotekun corps to sustained investment in local infrastructure, he said, the region has shown that decentralized security can work.
“The call for State Police is simply the next logical step. We reaffirm our full support for the Renewed Hope security reforms and for the united position of Southwest leaders. The security of our people is non negotiable,” he said.
Oladejo added that the time for State Police is not just ripe but long overdue, and urged stakeholders nationwide to join hands with President Tinubu to build a safer and stronger Nigeria.
