“This is in response to detection of wide Polio Virus in Makoko Water. That is why we are doing two rounds of outbreak response. It is a response to prevent an outbreak,” he said.
He further noted that rising misinformation around vaccines is contributing to preventable disease outbreaks in different parts of the world.
“Then, we have Measles and Rubella. Even in Texas and Canada, there had been outbreak due to different rumours against and misinformation about vaccines, which has discouraged many people from taking vaccine again,” he explained.
“My message to my beloved residents of Epe is that we don’t have enough resources to tackle the complication of not taking vaccines. So, my appeal to them is to give our children diseases-free future by allowing them to take vaccines,” he added.
Dr. Awolesi also announced an upcoming life-saving initiative aimed at strengthening emergency response within the community. He revealed that a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme will soon roll out for healthcare workers and teachers to improve first-response actions during emergencies.
“We are also planning a basic life support training for our healthcare workers, to start training teachers from school to schools on this life support,” he said.
He lauded the support of the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, noting:
“Our wonderful and pro-health Executive Chairman… has given full support; as we now have Automatic Defibrillators… on ground. All it remains to be done is to train our healthcare workers on its use”.
