- Tinubu Praises Swift Senate Confirmation of New Defence Minister
- Tinubu praised Musa as “a fine gentleman”
- Musa assured the Senate that he would launch a full investigation into the troop withdrawal immediately after assuming office
President Bola Tinubu has applauded the Senate for confirming the nomination of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (retired), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement posted on his verified X account on Thursday, December 4, the President described the appointment as both timely and crucial for addressing the country’s ongoing security concerns. Tinubu praised Musa as “a fine gentleman” whose leadership, he said, will be essential in strengthening national security.
The President noted that he forwarded Musa’s name to the Senate only two days earlier for screening and confirmation. “I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. His appointment comes at a critical juncture in our lives as a nation. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he wrote.

The Senate confirmed Musa’s appointment on Wednesday after an intensive five-hour screening session. Lawmakers questioned the former defence chief about several recent security lapses, including the withdrawal of troops from Government Comprehensive Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, shortly before schoolgirls were abducted on November 17.
In response, Musa assured the Senate that he would launch a full investigation into the troop withdrawal immediately after assuming office. He also pledged to probe the killing of Brigade Commander Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, along with other attacks involving senior military officers.
Musa’s appointment comes after the resignation of former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru, reportedly due to health-related issues.
