A renewed call for unity echoed across Lagos on Tuesday as political leaders, clerics, and supporters gathered for an interfaith prayer session organised by the Grassroot Movement for Tinubu (GMT) 2027. The event, held in an atmosphere of solidarity, brought together Christian and Muslim figures to pray for peace, stability, and progress in Nigeria.

He dismissed claims circulating online about genocide and insisted that both Christians and Muslims continue to coexist without hostility.

According to Yusuf, daily social interactions sharing meals, celebrating festivals, and living in mixed communities – highlight the country’s enduring religious harmony. He added that the Movement will continue to strengthen peaceful relations among citizens irrespective of faith or ethnicity.
The Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Tayo Ayinde, also addressed participants, describing collective prayer as crucial at a time when insecurity remains a national concern. He maintained that Nigeria is not under any form of genocide threat and expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent security decisions.
Ayinde noted that the appointment of a new Minister of Defence, who has a solid professional background, is expected to boost synergy among service chiefs and accelerate improvements in national security.
Cardinal James Omolaja Odumbaku, who described the event as the second of its kind after the Ibeju–Lekki edition, said the interfaith turnout was a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s unbreakable unity. He insisted that attempts to divide the country would fail and added that President Tinubu remains committed to the welfare of all Nigerians.
In his remarks, Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester, who represents Epe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, highlighted the close cooperation between Lagos leaders and the President in addressing security challenges nationwide. He said such collaboration is already laying the groundwork for meaningful national progress.
The Director General of Ogun State GMT, Rt. Hon. Tola Banjo, commended the Lagos chapter for its organisational efforts. Banjo emphasised that Nigeria is not experiencing genocide and praised the country’s long-standing record of religious tolerance.

The interfaith service ended with prayers for President Tinubu, Lagos State, and the nation at large. Participants asked for divine guidance, peace, and stability and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting unity-driven initiatives across the country.
GMT 2027 leadership said the Movement will intensify its grassroots engagement ahead of 2027, with a focus on sustaining national cohesion and strengthening peaceful coexistence.
