The Lagos State Government has flagged off the second phase of its polio vaccination campaign, intensifying efforts to curb the spread of the circulating Variant Poliovirus Type Two detected earlier in Makoko, Lagos Mainland.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the exercise, led by the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with NPHCDA, WHO, UNICEF and other partners, will run from Saturday, December 6, to Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

This phase builds on the gains recorded during the first round of the outbreak response launched on November 8 and is targeted at boosting immunity in highly populated and vulnerable communities across the state.
Health officials will be deployed to all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs, administering two drops of the Novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type Two (nOPV2) to children aged 0 to 59 months.
The vaccination teams will move from house to house and also cover schools, markets, worship centres, motor parks and other public spaces to ensure no child is missed.
Permanent Secretary of the LSPHCB, Dr Ibrahim Mustafa, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting every child, urging parents, caregivers, community leaders and residents to fully cooperate with health workers and make children available for vaccination.
