K1 highlighted his long-standing contributions to Ijebuland and Yoruba culture, recalling that the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, honoured him with the titles of Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole in 2023.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has been directed by the Awujale Interregnum Administration Council to begin compiling names of qualified princes, with a 14-day deadline to submit nominees.
Key stakeholders including Otunba Abdul-Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, and Prof. Fassy Yusuf have been tasked with coordinating the process.
The succession rites officially commenced on December 2 with the symbolic carrying of the Awujale’s Staff of Office by the Ogbeni Odi, marking the next phase of the traditional transition.

As the nomination window opens, attention is now on the ruling house to determine which candidates will make the shortlist, especially given K1’s prominence and public influence.
The Awujale throne remains one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional institutions, and the selection process is expected to attract nationwide interest.
