Lagos State University (LASU) has distanced itself from a viral online video that caused panic among students after creators staged a prank suggesting the presence of bandits on campus.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the video, titled “Bandits Prank on Lasuites” and posted by Datreez Entertainment TV on Friday night, showed actors dressed in a way that triggered fear as they moved around the campus with equipment, leading to distress among students who believed a real security threat was unfolding.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the university clarified that the production was carried out without its permission. The management described the act as “unauthorised filming” and condemned the content for creating unnecessary alarm.
According to the statement, LASU “did not grant any approval, authorisation, or endorsement for the recording,” stressing that the actions of Datreez Entertainment TV were both inappropriate and unacceptable within the campus environment.
The institution criticised the creators for producing content that appeared to mimic banditry or violent extremism, noting that such material is especially reckless given Nigeria’s current security climate.

“LASU does not support or encourage any prank capable of inciting fear, disrupting peace, or undermining the sense of safety of students and staff,” the university said.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful atmosphere for learning. It also urged students and staff to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the LASU Security Unit.
