A sixty three year old woman displaced by the Oworonshoki demolition in Lagos State has appealed to the government, the traditional ruler of the community and well meaning Nigerians for urgent assistance, saying many victims have been left stranded with no shelter.
Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television programme monitored by Eko Hot Blog, the victim who withheld her name said the demolition exercise has rendered families homeless with no alternative accommodation provided.

We are not goats, we are not animals. The government should please help us, she pleaded. She claimed that before the demolition, some residents received between two hundred thousand and three hundred thousand naira, but insisted the payments were limited to indigenes, many of whom do not own homes.
She said residents were not informed that the demolition would reach their section of the community and questioned whether such amounts could secure new accommodation for displaced families.
According to her, some victims have been forced to sleep in abandoned water tanks, while others lie on the streets in makeshift spots. She alleged that even the tanks and temporary shelters they resorted to were later set ablaze.
Some of us were sleeping inside the water tank. People put cloth there and they came back to burn those things again. We are just staying around. Some people sleep on the street, anywhere we can find, she explained.
The victim appealed to authorities to intervene urgently, noting that vulnerable persons including stroke patients are among those left without shelter.
If it is the Lagos State Government that is responsible for this, they should come. They should please help us. We are not goats. We are not animals. They should have pity on us. This is too much, she said tearfully.
