The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on Igbo people at home and in the diaspora to abandon agitations for a separate Biafran state, saying the administration of President Bola Tinubu has addressed the grievances that once fuelled the movement through deliberate inclusion and development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Umahi made the call late on Saturday during an inspection of ongoing mega infrastructure projects on the Enugu–Anambra Road, where he met with stakeholders, contractors and community leaders.

According to the minister, the push for Biafra in the past was largely driven by feelings of marginalisation, exclusion and limited representation at the federal level, but he insisted that the situation has significantly changed under the current administration.
“When a people are fully integrated, respected and empowered within the structure of the nation, the dream they once pursued through agitation has already been achieved through cooperation,” Umahi said.
He noted that President Tinubu has intentionally opened up the South-East to national development, ensuring that federal appointments, policy participation and infrastructure distribution reflect fairness and balance.
“The narrative has changed dramatically. Appointments, policy inputs and infrastructure priorities now show that the South-East is no longer left out,” he said.

Umahi cited his appointment as Minister of Works, alongside other strategic positions occupied by Igbo sons and daughters, as evidence that the region has attained meaningful inclusion in national governance.
“Today, every sector bears visible Igbo footprints. The presence of Ndigbo in key national roles confirms that we are fully part of the Nigerian project,” he added.
The minister further disclosed that major infrastructure projects are ongoing across all five states of the South-East, many of which were previously considered unattainable, and said this development explains why several political leaders in the region, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, have aligned with the APC-led Federal Government.
“Biafra was never about breaking Nigeria; it was about being recognised within Nigeria,” Umahi said. “With inclusion, equity and tangible development now in place, agitation naturally loses its voice.”
He urged the South-East to rally behind President Tinubu, describing the administration’s investment in the region as unprecedented and a clear sign of commitment to its progress.
Umahi recalled that during an earlier inspection of the dualisation of the Enugu–Benue highway at Ninth Mile Corner in September, he had declared that the Tinubu administration had “remembered the South-East” and deserved the region’s overwhelming support.
