Tragedy struck along Ikorodu Road, opposite Olabode House in Anthony, Lagos, yesterday, when a road accident claimed the lives of an eight-month-old baby and an adult female passenger, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to reports, a red Tata commercial bus travelling at high speed from Palmgrove towards Anthony lost control, veering into the opposing lane where it collided with a Volkswagen commercial bus carrying passengers from Anthony to Palmgrove.

The collision resulted in the death of the adult female on board the Volkswagen bus, while the infant succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), assisted by members of the public, responded swiftly to the scene. A total of 10 victims, including the drivers of both vehicles, were extricated from the wreckage, all sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
Six passengers were rescued from the Volkswagen bus, Four victims, including the driver, were evacuated from the red Tata bus.
To prevent further accidents, LASTMA cordoned off the scene, removed the wrecked vehicles from the expressway, and restored traffic flow along the main carriageway.

The injured were transported to nearby medical facilities by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), while officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) recovered the remains of the deceased. Security operatives from Ilupeju Police Division provided security coverage throughout the operation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved families, especially the mother of the infant, who sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment.
“This incident is a collective moment of grief for parents and all people of good conscience. Our prayers are with the bereaved, and we wish speedy recovery for the injured victims,” Bakare-Oki said.
He urged all motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise restraint, vigilance, and compliance with speed limits, and stressed the importance of routine vehicle roadworthiness checks, especially brakes, before embarking on journeys.
“Reckless driving remains a deadly menace with irreversible consequences. LASTMA reaffirms its commitment to saving lives through proactive traffic management, rapid emergency response, and public enlightenment, urging all road users to prioritise safety,” he added.
