According to the president, true leadership is measured not by the positions occupied but by the impact that endures long after public office is left behind.

He said Buhari would be remembered for his personal integrity, modest lifestyle and deep conviction that public office represents a sacred trust rather than an avenue for personal enrichment.
Tinubu described the former leader as a man of quiet resolve and strict self-discipline, noting that even his critics often acknowledged his honesty and personal standards.
He extended condolences to Buhari’s family, including his widow, Aisha Buhari, stressing that the former president’s name would continue to inspire future generations.
Reflecting on their shared political history, Tinubu recalled the historic 2015 election that saw an incumbent president defeated for the first time in Nigeria’s history. He said the coalition that emerged at the time demonstrated that unity across differences could reshape the nation’s political direction.

The president explained that the book offers a balanced account of Buhari’s leadership journey, capturing both achievements and limitations, and urged upcoming leaders to extract lessons rather than slogans from his life.
He identified humility, commitment to security, long-term thinking and social justice as defining elements of Buhari’s legacy.
He added that sustaining a legacy depends on those who come after, stressing that governance should be guided by cooperation, honour and measurable outcomes rather than political bitterness.
Earlier, the book’s author, Dr Charles Omole, described the publication as the most extensive documentation of Buhari’s life and leadership, noting that the 600-page work addresses critical questions surrounding his public service.

Members of Buhari’s family, including his daughter, Hajia Hadiza Buhari, expressed appreciation to Tinubu and Nigerians for their support and prayers, saying the former president’s life should challenge future leaders to build strong institutions capable of delivering lasting results.
The event drew high-profile attendance, including Gambian President Adama Barrow, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, state governors, ministers and former service chiefs, who paid glowing tributes to Buhari’s reputation for incorruptibility.
