Eko Hot Blog reports that the proposed elevation to the rank of brigadier-general was halted after interventions by senior retired military officers, who reportedly warned that the move could undermine discipline, seniority and morale within the Nigerian Army.

Military sources disclosed that the promotion, which was expected to take place quietly, would have broken long-established procedures that require years of service, specialised training and rigorous promotion boards before attaining the rank of brigadier-general.

The reported plan also generated unease because no officer of that rank has previously served as ADC to a sitting Nigerian president.
Sources further revealed that the intervention of respected former army chiefs played a decisive role in persuading the President to shelve the promotion.

The development coincided with a closed-door meeting between President Tinubu and Nigeria’s Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, amid mounting security challenges across the country.
While the Presidency has remained silent on the matter, security observers say the episode has reopened debate over the balance between presidential authority and adherence to military tradition.
