Speaking at the event, NIDCOM Chairman and CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the crucial role Nigerians abroad can play in national development. “No matter where you are in the tech world, we can partner, we can build our country,” she said, stressing that building a stronger Nigeria requires collective effort.
Dabiri-Erewa called for closer collaboration between Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. “It is not only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that will make it the best. All of us have a role to play. We have diasporas doing so well abroad, but it is not enough to succeed abroad. What can you do back home?” she urged.

During the event, Dabiri-Erewa received the Most Influential People of African Descent of the Decade award from Kamil Olufowobi, Chairman of MIPAD, in recognition of her work engaging and supporting Nigerians living abroad.
The Dowa Start-up Challenge also concluded with Emmanuel Amoo emerging as the winner for his app, Veriprop, a platform that enables Nigerians in the diaspora to safely invest in real estate in Nigeria by connecting them with trusted local agents. Amoo was awarded the grand prize of ₦1 million.
