Dr Yinusa explained that each beneficiary received ₦200,000 to support the payment of tuition and other approved academic charges for the 2025/2026 session.

He noted that the initiative was made possible largely through voluntary donations from internal members of the university’s governing council, who contributed their sitting allowances, alongside additional funding from the ASUU-OOU branch.
According to him, the collective sacrifice reflects the union’s sense of responsibility and solidarity with students facing economic hardship.
The ASUU leader added that the scholarship scheme is aimed at reducing dropout rates, promoting academic excellence and ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder access to university education.
The union reaffirmed its position that no qualified student should be denied higher education due to lack of funds.

ASUU also commended members of the University Council for their selfless contribution, describing the move as a rare demonstration of commitment to education and human capital development.
Beneficiaries were congratulated and urged to remain disciplined, focused and dedicated to their studies, with the union noting that the support is both an encouragement and a call to academic excellence.
The statement further emphasised that the intervention highlights ASUU’s broader role in advancing social justice, student development and sustainable access to quality education within Nigeria’s university system.
