The internal crisis within the Labour Party has escalated, as the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee issued a strong warning to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, and supporters of Peter Obi.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the warning was issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who cautioned against actions capable of destabilising the party, including plans to organise a parallel national convention.

Ifoh reacted to moves by the Nenadi Usman-led faction, which announced plans to hold a national convention in February 2026, a step the Abure-led leadership described as illegal.

Usman’s faction had also unveiled a nationwide membership revalidation and fresh registration exercise aimed at mobilising millions of Nigerians ahead of future elections.
However, the recognised NWC dismissed the initiative, insisting that Abure remains the party’s legitimate national chairman and that any parallel activities would be resisted through legal means.
Ifoh accused the Abia deputy governor of contradiction, noting that he previously supervised the convention that returned Abure to office, yet is now leading a rival steering committee.

He further alleged that Deputy Governor Emetu was acting under pressure from Governor Otti, warning that the party would not tolerate indiscipline or internal sabotage.
The Labour Party spokesperson maintained that recent court rulings had reinforced the authority of the current leadership, adding that the party would not allow distractions as it prepares for future political engagements.
