EKO HOT BLOG reports that several worshippers were killed on Wednesday after an explosive device detonated inside the mosque during prayers at the busy Gamboru Market area of the Borno State capital. The blast caused panic and confusion as residents and traders fled the scene.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion tore through part of the mosque, killing some worshippers instantly and leaving others with varying degrees of injuries. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the building as people attempted to rescue victims before emergency responders arrived.
Reacting to the incident, the PDP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, condemned the attack and described it as unacceptable.
The statement, titled Christmas Eve Explosion One Too Many, accused the current administration of failing in its responsibility to protect lives and property.
“The news of an explosion in a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, is another sad reminder of the rising insecurity that has become the unfortunate contemporary reality that Nigerians face. This is totally unacceptable; the irreducible minimum the government should offer its people is the protection of lives and property. This administration has failed woefully in this respect and should rise to the occasion rather than resort to rhetoric and playing politics with security,” the statement read.
The party commiserated with families of victims and warned that continued attacks on places of worship could undermine constitutional rights and deepen fear in society.
“No one should lose their life while worshipping God,” the PDP said, urging authorities to act decisively.

The opposition party called on both the Federal and Borno State governments to take immediate and practical measures to secure lives throughout the festive period and beyond, insisting that Nigerians deserve concrete security action rather than promises.
