Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The summit, taking place at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, will bring together heads of state and government, ministers, senior government officials and representatives of regional institutions to discuss key issues affecting the West African sub region.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said Shettima would participate in the high level meeting alongside political and business leaders from across West Africa and beyond.
According to the statement, deliberations at the summit will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and developing collective strategies to address common challenges confronting ECOWAS member states.
The Presidency said leaders are expected to consider major policy decisions and adopt strategic resolutions aimed at promoting peace, democracy, economic growth and deeper regional integration within the ECOWAS bloc.
The meeting forms part of the organisation’s statutory mid year engagements, during which member states review progress made in implementing regional priorities and assess responses to emerging challenges.
Key issues expected to dominate discussions include regional security, democratic governance, trade, infrastructure development, economic integration and sustainable development.
The summit comes at a time when several West African countries continue to grapple with terrorism, political transitions and economic pressures, prompting renewed efforts to strengthen cooperation and collective action across the region.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja at the conclusion of the summit.
