Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has extended warm Christmas greetings to Christians in the state and across Nigeria, calling on them to embrace the virtues of love, unity and peaceful coexistence during the festive season.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor’s message was contained in a Christmas statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, in Ibadan.

The governor noted that the true meaning of Christmas goes beyond celebrations, urging believers to mirror Christ’s teachings by living in harmony with their neighbours and fostering understanding within their communities.
He stressed that the season should inspire kindness, tolerance and mutual respect among residents.
Makinde also reminded the people of Oyo State to remain alert throughout the Yuletide, emphasising that maintaining security is a shared responsibility between the government and the citizens. According to him, collective vigilance is crucial to sustaining the relative peace enjoyed in the state.

He encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to swift response when credible information is provided.
The governor reiterated the importance of the state’s emergency response system in addressing security concerns.
Makinde specifically urged citizens to make use of the Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number, 615, assuring them that the line remains active and effective in mobilising security operatives when emergencies arise. He stressed that public cooperation remains a vital tool in crime prevention.
