The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has paid glowing tribute to the late Agba Oye of Ibadanland and renowned industrialist, Chief Harry Akande, describing him as a compassionate giver whose influence spanned generations and continents while remaining firmly rooted in Ibadan.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that speaking at the fifth remembrance anniversary of the late businessman held at the Sunlight Royal Event Centre, New GRA, Ibadan, the monarch said Akande embodied global excellence without losing sight of his cultural identity and hometown values.

Oba Ladoja noted that the late Akande consistently invested his time, resources and influence in the progress of Ibadan, stressing that his passion for the city’s development never waned until his passing.
According to the monarch, the honours bestowed on the business icon during his lifetime were a reflection of his far-reaching contributions and enduring impact on society.
Encouraging members of the Akande family, the Olubadan urged them to preserve and promote the ideals their patriarch stood for, adding that true legacies live on through values, not material possessions.
He emphasised that although the businessman is no longer alive, his name continues to resonate through the many lives he touched.

In her remarks, Akande’s widow, Chief (Mrs) Tolulope Akande, described her late husband as a man of deep affection, loyalty and generosity whose relationships cut across business, family and friendships worldwide. She said his kindness to humanity and unwavering love for his family remain qualities people continue to associate with his name.
She also spoke emotionally about the past five years, acknowledging the pain of loss while expressing gratitude for the strength and unity of her children, whom she said have remained supportive and steadfast since their father’s passing.
Also speaking at the event, Professor Soji Adejumo described the late Akande as a global ambassador who projected Nigeria positively through his business dealings and personal conduct. He said the businessman’s exposure, influence and character earned him respect both locally and internationally.

A close associate, Prince Adebola Ogunleye, recalled Akande’s entry into national politics, describing him as a disciplined political figure and mentor who believed strongly in the success of others. He noted that Akande’s love for Nigeria and its people explained why his memory continues to attract admiration years after his death.
Other speakers, including Yomi Badejo-Okunsanya and Muyiwa Ige, highlighted the late businessman’s lessons on elegance, entrepreneurship, and mentorship, describing him as a trailblazer whose guidance helped shape many careers and aspirations.
The remembrance ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, captains of industry, political figures, family members, and friends, all united in celebrating the enduring legacy of a man widely regarded as one of Ibadan’s finest sons.
