The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind the joint military operation carried out by Nigerian and United States forces against terrorist hideouts in the North-West geopolitical zone.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Afenifere described the coordinated air strikes on ISIS elements as timely and necessary, stressing that national sovereignty is meaningless if a government cannot protect the lives and property of its citizens.

In a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, the group welcomed confirmation by the Defence Headquarters that the operation was conducted with the approval of the appropriate Federal Government authorities.
According to Afenifere, the decisive action followed years of persistent insecurity that has left many communities at the mercy of terrorists, undermining national stability and public safety.
Omololu said the involvement of the United States in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts should be acknowledged rather than criticised, noting that innocent Nigerians have endured repeated attacks, abductions, and destruction of property for too long.
He argued that prolonged governance failures created a security vacuum that made foreign partnership inevitable, adding that true sovereignty is measured by a nation’s ability to safeguard its people, enforce the rule of law, and secure its borders.

“The lives of Nigerians and the preservation of national peace must take precedence over political sentiment or populist criticism,” the statement read.
Afenifere further commended the Federal Government for what it described as a swift and coordinated response, saying the operation demonstrated renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability in affected areas.
The organisation urged Nigerians, political leaders, and civil society groups to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts and avoid actions that could undermine national security.
It also praised the professionalism and courage displayed by both Nigerian and US forces, reaffirming its support for any domestic or joint initiatives aimed at freeing citizens from the threat of terrorism and ensuring lasting security across the country.
