The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman of Conference 57, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, had the profound honor of attending the vibrant and historic Eyo Festival alongside esteemed colleagues from the Conference 57 league of Chairmen.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a press statement, Hon. Olowa expressed his excitement, saying, “As an Adimu Orisa, I feel deeply privileged to participate in this grand celebration, which beautifully showcases the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State and, by extension, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.”
The festival’s colorful processions, captivating performances, and joyous atmosphere drew thousands to Lagos Island, with participants dressed in white robes and iconic masquerades.
This year’s edition, uniquely held during the festive December season, marked the first Eyo Festival in eight years and honored legendary Lagosians including Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, General Mobolaji Johnson, and Sir Michael Otedola.
Hon. Olowa expressed pride in leading an administration that actively values the preservation of cultural heritage.
He described the festival, also known as the Adamu Orisha Play, as a powerful symbol of community resilience, creativity, and unity, reminding residents of their historical roots.
He further commended the organizers, participants, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, for their dedication to promoting and preserving Lagos’ cultural identity, while affirming his administration’s commitment to building a society that honors its past and embraces innovation and growth for the benefit of all residents of Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State.
