The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amadin William for the alleged killing of his Europe-based childhood friend, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, in Oben community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred during a house-warming ceremony held on December 22, 2025, when the victim reportedly stepped out to ease himself and was attacked with a machete.

Confirming the development on Sunday in Benin City, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect inflicted deep machete wounds on the deceased’s neck.
According to her, Osarietinomwan was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.
“The suspect, after committing the crime, absconded and went into hiding. However, following intelligence-led efforts, he was tracked and arrested on December 27,” Ikoedem said.

She added that two other individuals were also arrested in connection with a reprisal attack that followed the killing, during which angry youths allegedly set the suspect’s house on fire.
It was gathered that the suspect allegedly lured the deceased to a bush path during the house-warming event before launching the attack.
The deceased was said to have recently returned from Europe to celebrate the Christmas season with his family before the tragic incident.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing, assuring that all those involved in the killing and the subsequent arson would be brought to justice.
