- FG Moves to Manufacture CNG, EV Facilities Locally in China Partnership
- The initiative reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to affordable alternative fuels
- The MoU also provides for the deployment of advanced smart monitoring systems across Nigeria’s CNG
The Federal Government has entered into a strategic partnership with a Chinese infrastructure and Internet of Things solutions firm, You Jie Te Environment Technology Ltd (YJT), to localise the manufacturing and assembly of Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicle infrastructure in Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the partnership was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding signed under the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles during a five-day official visit to YJT’s production facilities and corporate headquarters in Chengdu and Hangzhou, China.

The delegation was led by the Executive Chairman of Pi-CNG, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed.
YJT is a major player in downstream oil and gas infrastructure and IoT-driven energy solutions. Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on the local production and assembly of CNG dispensers, refuelling stations and EV charging infrastructure, in line with Nigeria’s drive to boost local content, cut reliance on imports and speed up the transition to cleaner transport energy.
The MoU also provides for the deployment of advanced smart monitoring systems across Nigeria’s CNG and EV ecosystem. YJT’s IoT technologies will be integrated into Pi-CNG’s National Gas Vehicle Monitoring System, enabling real-time tracking of refuelling infrastructure, operational efficiency, safety standards, regulatory compliance and economic performance across stations nationwide.
Speaking on the deal, Ahmed said the partnership goes beyond infrastructure development and would deliver wider economic and social benefits.
“This collaboration is about ensuring Nigerians gain access to cleaner and more affordable transport energy while also creating jobs, transferring skills and improving service reliability,” he said.
“Localising manufacturing and deploying intelligent monitoring systems will enhance transparency, safety and efficiency across the CNG and EV value chain, delivering long-term benefits for commuters, operators and the wider economy.”

During the China visit, the Pi-CNG delegation also toured the facilities of Sichuan Witent Technology Co Ltd, a manufacturer of CNG vehicle conversion kits. Talks centred on possible investments in local assembly plants and full-scale manufacturing operations in Nigeria to meet growing demand for vehicle conversions and deepen domestic participation in the gas-powered transport sector.
According to Pi-CNG, the engagements reflect the Federal Government’s deliberate push for results-oriented international partnerships, technology transfer and domestic capacity building.
The initiative reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to affordable alternative fuels and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient and inclusive transport energy system.
The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas was set up to fast-track the adoption of CNG and electric vehicles as cost-effective alternatives to petrol and diesel, particularly for public transport and commercial fleets.
It forms part of the government’s broader energy transition and cost-of-living response, aimed at lowering fuel costs, reducing emissions, boosting domestic gas utilisation and creating employment through local manufacturing and private sector investment.
