Tinubu spoke during the wedding reception of Aondoakura Akume, son of the SGF, held in Makurdi on Sunday, where he said he considers it a moral responsibility to intervene and mend broken ties for the collective good of all stakeholders.

Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the president described Senator Akume as a resilient leader whose long years of service should command respect, noting that shared values must outweigh political disagreements.
In his remarks, Vice President Shettima emphasised Benue State’s strategic importance to Nigeria, describing it as more than the nation’s food basket, but a state with deep cultural influence and political relevance.
He recalled how the Tiv people demonstrated national unity during the 2023 general elections by voting beyond religious and ethnic sentiments, stressing that such maturity must also reflect in leadership relationships.
Shettima warned that allowing discord between Senator Akume and Governor Alia to fester would ultimately hurt the people, insisting that dialogue and reconciliation remain the only viable path forward.

The vice president also highlighted Akume’s extensive public service record, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most experienced political figures whose contributions span decades across various levels of governance.
Earlier, Senator Akume thanked God for his family and political journey, urging residents of Benue State to continue praying for Governor Alia’s success, while also appealing for sustained support for the federal government.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, in his own message, praised Vice President Shettima for his consistent support for Benue State and congratulated the newlyweds, encouraging them to uphold values that would positively impact society.
