EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking at the event, the PDP Deputy National Secretary, Richard Nnanna Ihediwa, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of attempting to destabilise the opposition party. According to him, the APC fears losing power in 2027 because the PDP remains the only political platform capable of unseating it at the national level.
Ihediwa alleged that the ruling party had planted political moles within the PDP to deepen internal crises. However, he insisted that the leadership dispute within the party had largely been resolved following the emergence of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee during the party’s convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.
He expressed confidence that ongoing court cases concerning the party’s leadership tussle would ultimately be resolved in favour of the current leadership.
The PDP chieftain also predicted that the APC would struggle to gain support in the South-East during the 2027 elections. He argued that many people in the region remained dissatisfied with the Federal Government, citing the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
According to Ihediwa, the Federal Government’s economic policies have worsened hardship among Nigerians, further weakening the APC’s chances in the region.
Earlier at the event, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, formally launched the party’s online membership registration campaign in Abia State.
Wabara encouraged supporters to participate actively in the exercise, describing it as part of efforts to reposition the party for future electoral success. He also urged members who had left during the party’s internal crisis to return and help rebuild its structures.
While commending the Abia PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Emeka-Yellow Ikpegbu, for his leadership, Wabara warned against the practice of godfatherism in party affairs.
According to him, transparency, fairness, and due process would help restore public confidence in the party. In his remarks, Ikpegbu described the inauguration of Local Government Caretaker Committees as a crucial step toward rebuilding the PDP’s grassroots base in Abia State. He urged the new officials to mobilise members, reconnect with supporters, and restore public trust in the party.

He acknowledged that the PDP in Abia had previously faced internal challenges but insisted that the party had now begun a process of healing and rebuilding. He also warned that sabotage and actions that undermine the party’s interests would no longer be tolerated. Other speakers at the meeting expressed optimism that the PDP was regaining strength in the state and pledged their support to the caretaker leadership as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
