The Ogun State Police Command has formally arraigned the driver involved in the car accident that claimed the lives of two associates of former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed on Friday that the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, was charged to court in connection with the incident.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kayode was arraigned before a Sagamu Magistrate Court in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Friday, January 2, 2026. The police filed four separate charges against him over the accident.
“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026,” the police stated.
According to the charge sheet, Kayode is facing prosecution for dangerous driving causing death, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.
Other charges include reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the Act; driving without due care and attention causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the same Act.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5,000,000 with two sureties. He was, however, remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The magistrate adjourned the case until January 20, 2026, for further hearing.
The accident occurred along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV, driven by Kayode, collided with a stationary truck. The crash led to the death of two occupants of the vehicle, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, at the scene.
Anthony Joshua and the driver reportedly sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for medical attention.
