The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, further deepening the ongoing political realignment in the state.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that shortly after registering, the deputy governor was seen singing “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” a song popularly associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as party supporters gathered at the venue.
Her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party follows closely after the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, also joined the APC weeks earlier. Fubara’s move came after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Following his defection, Governor Fubara was formally registered into the party by Tony Okocha, the APC chairman in Rivers State. Okocha had said the registration was carried out on the directive of the party’s national secretariat.
The defection of both the governor and his deputy marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Rivers State, a key oil producing region with a history of intense political contestation.
The development comes amid continued internal adjustments within the APC in the state. Recently, the National Chairman of the party, Nentawe Yilwatda, declared Governor Fubara as the leader of the APC in Rivers State.
Yilwatda’s declaration followed a series of high level meetings and consultations as the party moves to consolidate its structure ahead of future electoral contests.

The registration of Deputy Governor Odu is expected to further strengthen the APC’s presence in Rivers State, as political actors continue to reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
